Departmental Counselor – Allier Department, France Mayor of Couzon, France
Global Humanitarian and Peacebuilder
Christophe De Contenson is a globally recognized humanitarian, peacebuilder, and a mayor. As Chairman and Co-Founder of the International Development Alliance (IDAF) and Mayor of Couzon, France, he has dedicated his life to the service of vulnerable communities across continents, combining grassroots action with diplomatic leadership to bring peace, dignity, and hope to those the world often forgets.
At just 23 years old, Christophe walked into the aftermath of the Cambodia genocide, risking his own life to rescue the wounded and displaced. While most people his age were building careers, he was building trust in war zones. This early experience shaped his lifelong commitment to stand with the suffering wherever they are.
Christophe later spent 15 transformative years in Africa, launching a skills development and rehabilitation center aimed at locals below the poverty line. He provided them with training, structure, and purpose, helping them transition from extreme poverty to independence. Many of these individuals, once left behind by society, are now earning in euros, leading dignified lives, and contributing positively to their communities. This initiative stands as one of the most impactful grassroots development models in the region.
When war struck Ukraine, Christophe once again put his life at risk by entering the country during the conflict. He met with civilians in crisis, observed the destruction, and recorded their stories of resilience and heartbreak. His powerful book, “Be Brave Like Ukrainians,” has since become a symbol of international solidarity and civilian bravery, giving the world an unfiltered look at the human cost of war and the undying courage of the Ukrainian people.
In addition to being Mayor, Christophe serves as a Departmental Counselor in the Allier Department of France. In this leadership role, he works with 28 mayors to coordinate development across multiple towns and villages. His focus includes strategic planning, social welfare, and community growth.
Back in his homeland, Christophe serves as the Mayor of Couzon, where he applies compassion and progressive vision. His work centers around community empowerment, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive governance, making Couzon a model for social progress. His role as mayor adds a valuable policy-making perspective to his global humanitarian efforts.
Today, Christophe De Contenson has joined hands with our co-founder Abdul Karim in Pakistan to co-create the International Development Alliance (IDAF), a foundation dedicated to youth empowerment, interfaith harmony, and international peacebuilding. His presence in Pakistan reflects his belief that transformational leadership can come from the most unexpected places and must reach those often ignored by global systems.
Christophe De Contenson’s journey, from genocide zones in Asia to political leadership in France, is not just a personal story, but a roadmap for global compassion. He has shown that one person, driven by courage and empathy, can positively impact thousands of lives.
As Chairman of IDAF and Mayor of Couzon, he continues to unite local leadership with international vision, proving that true diplomacy begins with humanity.
